Surprising Vegan/Surprisingly Not

PETA recently published a list of "accidentally vegan" items here.  Unfortunately, as you can tell from the comments, their list is not entirely accurate.  One of my projects this year is to keep my list of surprisingly vegan products up-to-date.  I only have a few items right now, so please let me know if you have any additions.

Surprisingly Vegan:
- Bisquick - yay vegan pancakes!!!
- Fritos Corn Chips - but not Fritos Bean Dip :-( (sugar)

Surprisingly Not:
- Alcohol - (Only some types are not vegan).  More info to come...
- Oreos - I hate to place Oreos on this list, but there is a nasty rumor circulating that they are vegan, when they aren't.  An analysis of the ingredients shows that although they no longer contain whey, they do still contain sugar (see below).  And while there are sugars available that aren't filtered in bone char, Nabisco currently makes no distinction between its various vendors, so cannot guarantee that any particular batch of Oreos is going to be vegan.  (Check the "comments" section of the article linked above).
- Sugar - Depending on the company, refined white and brown sugars may or may not be filtered with bone char.  There are many companies who don't do this, but unless you can verify which ones do or do not, you're better off sticking with organic brands like Sugar in the Raw or other turbinado sugars.
- Veggie Slices Soy Cheese - Although this "cheese" is made from soy, it also contains the milk protein cassein.  You'd think this kind of defeats the purpose of being a soy cheese, but my best guess it that these slices were created for kosher reasons--since traditional cheese contains both milk and rennet, it would not be kosher, but soy cheese with milk protein would be.  Either way, Veggie Slices are not vegan.
